As impressive as the mountain of tries the Krakens have run in so far this season has been the precious few they have conceded.

Their latest haul of 16 away to Moray in women’s Caley North League 2 on Saturday took their total to 61 in four outings.

The 98-0 drubbing of the Elgin side also left the number of tries conceded at two, a record coach Mike Flavell particularly values.

“One of our aims on Saturday was to not let them score, as they had done in the earlier match in Thurso,” he said. “The other pleasing thing was that the tries we scored were reasonably well spread about.”

At a bright and breezy Morriston Park, Caithness were quickly on the offensive and had soon established a healthy advantage,

With several home players having had to make injury exits and a repeat looming of the three-digit tally clocked up in the earlier match, the referee called time 20 minutes from the scheduled finish.

Flavell is frustrated that the run of one-sided contests is not developing his side and is hardly ideal preparation for the upcoming cup competition.

He was, however, impressed by some of their attacking play.

“We put together some really nice passages of play when we kept possession for long periods, cut some nice angles and made some nice offloads,” he said.

He gave special mentions to rookie prop Jacqueline Barclay, replacement Lindsay Dunnett and winger-turned-lock forward Holly Trick, the latter being named as the Caithness forward of the day.

Try scorers for the Krakens were Emmie Smith (4), Caitlin Harvey (3), Carly Erridge (2), Tamzin Rosie (2), Megan Douglas (2), Caitlin Flavell, Lauren Gunn and Heather Richard. Erridge converted eight and Douglas one.

The Krakens can wrap up the league title if they defeat Orkney Dragons in their next match at Millbank on November 16.
