DESPITE the late show, which meant his side left Inverness with a win, Wick manager Davie Kirkwood said his players had done more than enough to deserve three points.
Even though the team was unable to put the game beyond reach before half-time, its determination to leave with something after dropping a goal was encouraging.
“In the first half we were the better team so it was disappointing not to take any of our chances,” he told the Caithness Courier.
“It wasn’t as windy as I expected it to be and I thought we were able to play some good football at times. But, once again, after going a goal down, it was a kick up the backside for us.
“The players were still confident that they could take something from the game and fired in efforts from long range which is something I haven’t seen for a while.
“We have got a decent fixture list in the next few weeks against teams that are struggling and I think we could take the majority of points on offer.”
Clach manager Iain Polworth’s heart sank when Cunningham’s lob dipped under the bar. He said it is important his side starts to pick up wins before it is too late.
“It was difficult conditions to play in but I’m simply disappointed in the manner we lost without taking anything away from Wick. There was not much between the teams but I have full confidence in the guys’ ability to bounce back. We cannot get isolated down in the lower part of the table and it is a massive task to get up the table again.”
