Young karting competitor Jack Ryan was plagued with mechanical problems all weekend in the monthly race meet in Golspie.

The 14-year-old from Castletown has moved up to the Junior Max section this year.

In the opening heat, Jack was leading the pack when on lap eight he had to come in due to mechanical difficulties.

Heat two saw him leading the pack only to start losing power, again on lap eight, before managing to limp home in second position.

After major works on the kart, at last Jack was on pace in heat three. His lap times were good and he finished in first position, well ahead of the pack.

Jack began the final in second position. He quickly went up to pole and was doing well – but mechanical failure thwarted his efforts on lap three when his chain guard came off, resulting in him being flagged in.

It was quickly replaced and Jack went back out in determined fashion, getting the fastest lap of the day for his class, but he was unable to catch the leaders and came in third.

The next race meeting at the end of September is the first round of the Northern Challenge.

Jack's next outing will be in the autocross at Towerhill on Sunday.
