Manager Gary Manson says his Wick Academy squad is all about quality rather than quantity as preparations begin for the 2021/22 Highland League season.

The Scorries started pre-season training on Saturday morning at Harmsworth Park and Manson is pleased with the standard of the players he has available.

“I like to run with quite a tight squad – I don't believe in having squads of 22 or 23, that sort of size," he said.

“But they are all of equal ability and high ability, so no-one is guaranteed a start. We've gone for quality more than quantity.

“We've got some of our under-18 squad coming along with us for pre-season as well and I'm delighted with their quality. I'll be more than happy to dip into them if we need to over the course of the season, which I'm sure we will.”

Academy will begin their 2021/22 league fixtures on July 24 with a trip to take on Forres Mechanics, who chose to sit out the last campaign which ended up being cut short because of the pandemic.
