Impressive round by Harper in Reay men’s Winter Eclectic

Another busy week on the fairways at Reay saw action in the women’s, men’s and senior sections.

Round four of the men’s Winter Eclectic was won by Simon Harper following an impressive round of 78 made up of matching halves of 39, giving him a nett score of 69.

A brace of fine birdies at the 13th and 17th holes helped Willie Paton to take second place on countback on nett 71, ahead of Sandy Chisholm and Leslie Malcolm who finished on the same score.

In the overall eclectic standings Steve Efemey leads the way after four rounds on 61, ahead of a quartet of players on 63 – Donald Bain, Andy Bain, Andrew Taylor and Lee Parnell.

Round five of the women’s Winter League Stableford saw Patsy Mackay secure her maiden victory on the course, after a good start set her up for a fine winning tally of 39 points.

Julie Minchin finished runner-up on 37, with Su Hawes completing the podium places on 34. In the overall winter eclectic standings Pam Bain leads the way on 58.6, ahead of Sylvia Struthers on 61.1 and Sarah Meiklejohn on 61.8.

The latest action in the North Point Distillery Senior Stableford competition saw some excellent scores, with a crucial birdie at the final hole helping Hugh Millar seal victory on 44 points.

Kenny Farmer Snr birdied the tough eighth hole on his way to second place on 42, while a solid performance saw Alistair Simpson take third on 41 points. Carol Paterson bagged the nearest-the-pin prize courtesy of the sponsors.

In the overall standings Malcolm Thomson continues to lead the way on a six-round aggregate score of 219, ahead of Fred Groves on 216 and Kenny Farmer Snr on 212.

In the latest winter league Stableford action, birdies at the 15th and 18th helped James Meiklejohn to victory on 34 points. Donald Bain had to settle for second place on countback after he also finished on 34, with Sarah Meiklejohn third on 32.

In the overall standings Jack Johnstone leads the way on a six-round aggregate of 218, ahead of James Meiklejohn on 212 and Ronald Mathieson on 209.

This weekend will see the women back in winter Stableford action, while the men will be competing in round five of the Winter Eclectic.
