For the second year in a row the Bighouse Partnership sponsored a Texas Scramble over the Reay links.

Teams of three or four made up of ladies, gents and juniors competed for an array of prizes in bright and breezy conditions.

A very closely fought affair saw two teams tied at the top of the standings with countback required to determine the victors. In the end it was a team made up of local players John Nicolson, Grant Maxwell, Leslie Malcolm and Ian Farquhar who triumphed with an excellent winning score of 57.5.

The unlucky runners-up were the Helmsdale quartet of Richard Sutherland, Graham Grant, Aaron Grant and Peter Etheridge.

Another local team, comprising Mollie O’Brien, John O’Brien, Cammy Ross and Michael Smith, finished third on 59.0. The prizes were presented by Nigel Hurst-Brown and Toby Ward on behalf of the sponsors.

Category one of the gents' September Medal was won by Colin Munro after a round of 77 was good enough for nett 69. His halves of 41 and an inward 36 included birdies at the sixth, 14th, 15th and 16th holes.

The unfortunate Ian Farquhar finished as runner-up on 83 for nett 72. His score could have been much better but a disappointing final two holes saw him edged out of the top spot.

In category two it was Kenny A Farmer who bagged the silverware with a nett 76, finishing three ahead of Mike Halliday in second place.

The September Medal also marked the end of the Summer Eclectic, and this brought some consolation to Ian Farquhar who finished top of the standings on countback ahead of John O’Brien after both posted scores of nett 67. A late surge from Colin Munro saw him finish in third on 68.

The final rounds of the Jacobs Summer Cup also saw an exciting conclusion to the competition. Birdies at the sixth and 14th helped Lee Parnell to victory in round 11 with a tally of 36 points, ahead of Steve Efemey and Tom Ross on 35.

John O’Brien amassed an impressive 40 points to top the standings in round 12, helped along the way by birdies at the 13th and 18th, with Leslie Malcolm, Connor Ross and David Mackay sharing second place on 36 points.

In the 13th and final round Ian Farquhar posted an excellent 40 points, with a birdie at the 10th providing the highlight, ahead of Steve Efemey and Lee Parnell on 37.

In the overall Summer Cup standings, Tom Ross, who has been a consistent performer all year, bagged the much sought after silverware with an excellent six-round aggregate score of 219. Early pace-setter Donald Mowat had to settle for second place on 214, with John O’Brien and Lee Parnell finishing a stroke further adrift on 213.

Steve Efemey and Ian Farquhar were next best on 210.
