Halkirk United and Thurso on the road as North Caley action resumes
Halkirk United and Thurso will both be on their travels in the North Caledonian League on Saturday after being left idle last weekend when the entire fixture list fell victim to the weather.
The table-topping Anglers will be looking to continue their unblemished away record in the league this season when they take on Golspie Sutherland at King George V Park.
However, it is potentially one of the toughest trips of the season for Ewan McElroy’s men as Golspie won 2-1 at Morrison Park at the start of November and have risen to third in the table.
That was one of two league defeats suffered by Halkirk United so far this season, both at home. They have a 100 per cent record on the road in the 2024/25 league campaign, with maximum points from their six away fixtures.
The Anglers are on 33 points from 13 games, six points clear of Invergordon and Golspie, both of whom will be looking to make up ground as they catch up with their fixtures.
Invergordon have three games in hand on the leaders, whereas Golspie have two games in hand.
Thurso face their longest journey of the season as they take on Fort William at Claggan Park.
Manager Tom McKenna and his coaching team have been working hard to strengthen the squad and bring about improved performances.
Victories are still proving hard to come by, but the Vikings have taken encouragement from their last two outings. Both resulted in 3-2 defeats – against Fort William at the Dammies and then away to Alness United.
Thurso remain third from bottom of the 12-team division, having picked up two wins and lost their other 10 league matches to date. They are three points ahead of bottom club Bunillidh Thistle and two points better off than Clachnacuddin “A”.
North Caledonian League fixtures for Saturday, November 30: Alness United v St Duthus; Bunillidh Thistle v Invergordon; Clachnacuddin “A” v Bonar Bridge; Fort William v Thurso (1pm); Golspie Sutherland v Halkirk United (1pm); Orkney v Inverness Athletic.
