Halkirk United claimed their second Highland League scalp in the North of Scotland Cup as they knocked out Clachnacuddin in a tense penalty shootout during their quarter final match.

The North Caledonian League champions got off to a dream start after 10 minutes when an Alan Larnach cross met Martyn Cook whose shot was saved by Steven Dunn.

Striker Nigel Mackenzie was on hand to slot home the rebound to put Capital in the lead.

Clachnacuddin went on to dominate the game but were guilty of missing chance after chance.

The Inverness men equalised when Halkirk defender Alan Sinclair brought Martin Callum down in the box on 76 minutes.

Gordon Morrison calmly slotted the penalty past Graeme Williamson.

Both sides had chances to win in the dying minutes but the match went to penalties.

With the shootout at 2-2, Clach's Sam Urquhart's effort was spectacularly saved by Williamson.

After conceding the penalty in the second half, it was left for Alan Sinclair to turn from villain to hero as his goal sealed a semi final date with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
