Halkirk ‘A’ secure first division championship after defeating closest challengers





In the penultimate round of Caithness Small Bore Rifle Association’s postal winter league, Halkirk “A” secured the first division championship by defeating their nearest rivals Wick Old Stagers “A” to take the Bain Shield.

Divisions two and three are still undecided but both the top teams, Halkirk “B” and Dallas, take a two-point lead into the last round.

In the fourth division Keiss, who won their division outright the previous week, maintained their unbeaten run. Westfield “B” are fifth division champions as they have a four-point gap over Huntly “C” with a round to go.

Results – Division One: (points dropped ex 400) Wick OS “A” 11, Halkirk “A” 9. Individual scores (ex 100) – Wick OS “A”: D Simpson 99, H Simpson 99, S Nicolson 97, A W Paul 94. Halkirk “A”: W Campbell 99, R Campbell 98, J Campbell 98, J Fraser 96.

Huntly “A” 12, Watten “A” 12. Watten scores: D Bremner 98, J Henderson 97, S Henderson 97, D Wilson 96. Pentland “A” 11, Bogey 10. Pentland scores: R Brown 99, G Begg 97, D Mowat 97, P Richard 96.

L Thompson (Huntly “A”) was the only competitor who returned a possible.

Division Two: Stirkoke “A” 18, Orkney 400. Stirkoke scores: G Robertson 96, D G Henderson 96, J M Sutherland 95, G Cameron 95.

Watten “B” 22, Westfield “A” 24. Scores – Watten: B Mackay 97, D Thomson 96, N Brims 93, G Bremner 92. Westfield: M Mackenzie 97, M Mackay 95, GA Mackay 94, M Sutherland 90.

Halkirk “B” 13, Wick OS “B” 21. Scores – Halkirk: G Levack 98, T Hawes 98, S Yuille 96, R Levack 95. Wick: S S Nicolson 96, A Tait 96, G Sutherland 94, I Simpson 93.

T Hawes and G Levack (Halkirk “B” ) were the round’s top scorers with 98.

Division Three: Stirkoke “B” 21, Lairg 18. Stirkoke scores: R Innes 99, G Henderson 95, A Webster 93, I Gunn 92.

Dingwall 20, Dallas 17. Huntly “B” 11, Pentland “B” 19. Pentland scores: P Gates 96, J Coghill 96, WD Mowat 96, WD Steven 93.

K Sutherland (Dallas) was the round’s top scorer with 100.

Division Four: Keiss 21, Watten “C” 28. Scores – Keiss: J Harrold 95, B Cormack 95, W Mackay 95, J Dunnett 94. Watten: K Macaulay 100, M Macaulay 93, D Thomson Jnr 90, L Thain 89.

Halkirk “C” 213, Stirkoke “C” 45. Scores – Halkirk: S Blackwood 94, J Bremner 93. Stirkoke: J Cameron 91, G Hendry 91, B Sutherland 87, D Henderson 86.

Wick OS “C” 32, Clach 26. Wick scores: A Harper 93, N Hodgson 93, C Ronaldson 92, L Harper 90.

K Macaulay (Watten “C”) was the round’s top scorer with 100.

Division Five: Pentland “C” 400, Huntly “C” 44. Stirkoke “D” 400, Westfield “B” 27. Westfield scores: S Mackay 95, J Manson 95, A Mackay 93, G Williams 90. Nairn 54, Watten “D” 400.

Junior individual league, round 10: (ex 100); J Bremner 93, E Swanson (withdrawn); G Campbell 94, J Singh 85; A Mackay 88, J Macadie 81.

J Bremner won the junior league on aggregate score after tying on points with G Campbell.

Caithness Small Bore Rifle Association is participating in Division One of the national postal league for the Kolar Gold Mine Challenge Trophy.
