SURVIVAL is the name of the game for Caithness as the RBS Caley 1 League resumes tomorrow after the midwinter break.

It is now very much at the business end with Orkney the visitors at the start of what is shaping up to be a make-or-break run of three games.

Colin Sangster, who has taken charge of the side for the rest of the campaign, is upbeat as he looks forward to the challenge ahead.

He said: “I’ve been pretty pleased with how the guys have worked over the festive period.

“We’ve been training and on Saturday we had an 11-a-side game at Millbank. There were a few novices playing but the guys in the frame for Orkney all put in a good shift in pretty difficult conditions.”

The coach, back for a third stint at the helm, knows they need to harvest a run of match points tomorrow and in the away tussles versus Highland and Aberdeenshire if they are to move out of the relegation zone.

He said: “If they can’t get up for these games, there’s something far wrong.

“There’s a good buzz about the training sessions and I’m looking for the boys to show the same level of intensity on the playing field.

“They will make mistakes but they need to deal with them and they need to encourage each other and play as a team.”

Personnel-wise, flanker Stevie Campbell is back after damaging a hamstring on their last league match – a 3-3 draw at Strathmore at the start of last month.

Oil workers scrum half Graham Fryer and centre Norman Foubister are available but lock Roddie Gray and utility back James Sinclair are offshore while young flanker Reece Coghill is injured.

Orkney, who were in a division below the Greens last season, have been enjoying an excellent campaign, currently lying third.

The match kicks off at 2pm.
