Good entry for Reay Golf Club Junior Open

THERE was a good entry for Reay Golf Club’s recent Junior Open.

In the 18 holes off medal tees, Tyler Gordon (Thurso) won the gross prize with a creditable score of 90. In the nett section Kyle McLeod (Reay) won with Ben Durrand (Thurso) runner-up. Kyle took home the Northern Heating Supplies Trophy for best nett with a 74.

In the18-hole competition played off the junior tees Arran Johnson (Reay) won the gross prize with a superb 83. Reece McKellar (Reay) won first nett with an amazing score of 69, beating runner-up Dylan MacKenzie (Reay) by a single shot.

In the girls’ competition Emma Durrand (Thurso) won the scratch with a creditable 92.

The younger members took part in the Birdie Baggers section, played over six holes. This was one of the biggest turnouts Reay has seen in this section.

Scoring was excellent with Craig Malcolm (Reay) winning the Alec and Don Mackay Shield with a 34. Runner-up was Ross Rosie (Reay) on 40, third was Jack Bruce (Thurso) with 41 and fourth was Cameron Mackay (Reay), with fifth place going to Scott Malcolm (Reay).

In the girls’ section over six holes Rachael Durrand (Thurso) took the trophy with Camilla Elder (Wick) runner-up.

The Fairway Ferrets section for the youngest players was played over both the junior three-hole course and the main course. Scoring on the junior course was very close as Scott Wyllie (Thurso) beat Victoria Fryett (Reay) on countback, with Scott taking home the trophy. In third place was Jack Sinclair (Reay), with Ava Kelly (Reay) fourth and Chloe Mezals taking fifth place.

On the main course Ethan MacKenzie (Reay) scored an excellent 29with the runner-up Jamie McAdie (Reay) and Logan McAdie (Reay) third. Ethan won the Dunnett Shield.

The one hole was won by Sophie Mezals (Reay).

The prizes were presented by long-standing coach Cammie Ross.

Reay’s head coach Evan Sutherland thanked all the sponsors – O’Brien Construction, W & D Ross, Janette Wallace, Anne Morris, Bank of Scotland, Grahams, Fisher Nuclear and Inverness Golf Centre – for their support. As a result of this sponsorship every player received a prize.
