THERE was fierce competition in the annual Wick to Thurso Charity Road Relay as teams strived to raise the most money for two local causes.

The 18.5 mile race from the Wick Co-op to the Park Hotel in Thurso on Sunday, September 25, attracted 10 teams with more than £5600 raised for the Caithness branch of the MS Society Scotland and Thurso High School resource base.

Making a great debut was the Thurso Squash Club members who won with a time of two hours, two minutes and two seconds.

Meanwhile, only 18 seconds separated second-placed "Scrambled Legs n’ Achin" and the third-placed North Highland Harriers team.

Also taking a top accolade were the "Fast Reactors" from Dounreay who won the cup for the most money raised, collecting more than half the total sponsorship cash themselves.
