Eight horses and riders took advantage of a mini-camp organised by Caithness Riding Club at Sibster Mains on Saturday.

Fun was the order of the day for the senior and junior members who turned up to take part in a variety of activities.

The morning started with a flat coaching session, followed by a jumping lesson before a short lunch break.

In the afternoon it was time for the Trec training and fun competition which was won by Isabel More on Silver, with Erin Hewitson on Tinkerbell second and Steph Cowe third.

Trec, which originated in France, was developed as a means of testing and improving the skills of trail ride leaders in the equestrian tourism industry.

It was introduced to the UK in the 1990s, with Trec GB now the national governing body. It remains a sport based on the skills required for hacking.

On Saturday the riders carried out the control of paces phase where they had to demonstrate the slowest canter round a narrow track before completing the fastest possible walk.

They then took part in the obstacle section which recreates the natural hazards you might encounter out hacking.

The camp ended with two sessions up on the hill at Sibster over some of the JumpCross fences and cross-country obstacles, including the water jump.

This is only the second event the club has held since restrictions were lifted. The first activity to run was JumpCross and cross-country training on August 8-9.

The next planned event on the calendar is a club hack on September 12, followed by Evergreen instruction with Frances Sutherland on September 13.
