Wick and District Darts League has been through an eventful fortnight.

THERE have been thrills and spills in an eventful fortnight in the Wick and District Darts League.

In the ladies’ section the reigning champions, Francis Street Club, had a free week and this gave a chance for their nearest rivals, Camps "2" and Crown Bar, to close the gap.

But the Smiddy Inn held the Camps "2" to a draw and Camps drew their sixth game of the season, against the Crown, to dent both chasing sides’ chances.

Teresa Cornwall and Sonja Sengular were the best performers in these ties.

Also in the ladies’ league, Dorothy Macgregor hit a maximum as her side, Seaview, took the points against Harper’s. Lisa Ross was best for the visitors. Gail Mackay was the Mountain Dew’s best performer with 109 and 85 outshots as they won one and lost one.

In the second division the Mountain Dew surprised the Seaview "B" with a rare win but they were back to reality as table-toppers FSC whitewashed them the following week.

Harper’s "C" also got a win against Smiddy Inn "2", but the team that looks dangerous is Harper’s "B" which is creeping up the table.

In the top flight it’s as you were as Harper’s beat their closest rivals 5-3 in a match that produced eight x 180s. They followed up with a 6-2 win away to the Norseman.

Seaview’s Kevin Macgregor, the leading singles player, had mixed fortunes. He hit a 167 outshot in the game against Smiddy Inn but lost out to Brown Trout’s John Bain 2-3.

Blackstairs player Arthur Bruce had a brilliant 13-darter against the Legion’s Andrew Robertson. Youngster Reece Byrne also had a fine 16-dart leg as he beat Ronnie Plowman 3-0.

The Comm "B" look to have secured their safety with their top man Frank Sutton beating Queen’s player Rab Edwards 3-2. He had lost out to Rab’s pairs partner, Les Macadie, the previous week, 0-3.
