Wick Academy could be set for to welcome back forward for clash against Turriff United in the Highland League
DAVIE Allan could be set to return to action for Wick Academy when they face Turriff United in the Highland League tomorrow afternoon.
The attacker has been missing for the Scorries for the last three weeks through injury, but could be set to return for the clash at Harmsworth Park on Saturday.
His return will be welcome news for the Scorries who have been suffering through long term injuries and absentees this season.
Of the players missing at Wick for the forseeable future include Alan Hughes, Ross Gunn, Owen Harrold, Richard Macadie and Jack Henry.
Manager Gary Manson says Wick Academy are looking for a strong finish in their final run of matches to get as high up the Highland League table as they can.
The Scorries put in a terrific performance last week to defeat Forres Mechanics 3-1 for only their sixth victory of the campaign.
With seven matches remaining, Manson wants Wick to aim higher than their current position in the table of 15th place.
Looking back at last week’s win, Manson said: “If it wasn’t for Forres scoring it would have been the ideal day.
“The application the boys put in and the quality they showed was at the right time and it was a good day’s work.
“Everything pretty much went right, we showed the quality at the right times to get the goals.
“The third goal was really good with the two guys up top.
“We defended our box really well and looked comfortable most of the game. After they scored we might have retreated into our shell and invited balls into the box, but that never happened.
“I didn’t need to tell the boys after the win against Forres that is how we need to go for the remaining games now.
“Last year, was quite similar, we had a really slow start but we finished quite strong.
“You could feel the momentum building towards the end of the season when we didn’t want it to end.
“We are looking for something similar, we have seven games left and we will look to emulate what we did last season.
Wick Academy played Turriff United earlier this month when they went down to a 3-0 defeat.
Manson doesn’t believe there is too much between the two teams and is confident of a good result on Saturday.
“Turriff have been quite inconsistent, similar to ourselves, they will go two or three games in a row with good performances and then slip up.
“We played them not long ago and they are still fresh in the memory.
“They play a different shape to most teams in the league so we will need to adapt to counter that. They will be tough.
“When we went down there they turned us over. But the scoreline didn’t reflect the way we played. It was two evenly matched teams and I expect it to be tight on Saturday where the odd goal decides it.”
