Scorers – Wick: Cunningham (24), Mackay (28, 56pen), Gillespie (60 OG), MacAdie (87).

Nairn: Mackay (23, 30), Gethins (90).

Wick Academy took a massive scalp when they thrashed title challengers Nairn County at Harmsworth Park.

The Scorries put five goals past visitors Nairn County and showed the fans some sublime football after a flat first 20 minutes.

Nairn were first to score 23 minutes in after an attempt from Martin Macdonald ended up at the feet of Steven Mackay who turned on the spot and gave County the lead.

However Academy were straight back in the game when Stevie Cunningham equalised a minute later.

Wick's Sam Mackay added to the tally next with a scorcher of a shot from the edge of the box to put them ahead at 28 minutes in.

Nairn's Steven Mackay made it a brace and 2-2 at the half hour mark when Wick goalkeeper Allan Bokas was left scrambling on the line.

Sam Mackay got his own brace 11 minutes into the second half when he took a penalty shot after his team-mate Ross Allan was taken down in the box.

Ross Allan was also instrumental in Wick's next goal as the hour mark was reached.

He powered up the wing and his shot caused County's Dale Gillespie to score an own goal.

With three minutes remaining Ross's brother Davie managed to bring the ball around the side of the box and shot it back to Richard MacAdie.

MacAdie calmly slotted home another goal to make it 5-2.

Nairn clawed back a concession as 90 minutes dawned when a free kick was powered home by Conor Gethins from just outside the box.

But it was too little, too late for the visitors and Academy claimed all three points.
