Fifteen teams battle it out in Bighouse Estate Texas Scramble
Sunday saw teams of four competing at Reay in the annual Bighouse Estate Texas Scramble. An excellent entry of 15 teams did battle over a windswept links in sunny conditions.
Taking first place with an impressive score of nett 54 were Tricia Macdonald, Sarah Meiklejohn, Joy Fraser and Heather Campbell of the home club.
Another Reay quartet in the shape of Colin Struthers, Willie Paton, David R Craig and Stuart Greig took second place on countback on nett 55, ahead of a team of Thurso players comprising Iain Boyd, Derek Manson, Chris Sinclair and Ross Williamson. Boyd also took home the nearest-the-pin prize.
The previous day the gents were in action in the Nuvia August Medal.
Division two was bagged by David Mackay with the best nett score of the day, an excellent 66 from a round of 81. Alex Anderson put together halves of 40 and 43 for a round of 83 for nett 67 and second place.
Youngster Dylan Mackenzie fired an excellent round of 86 for nett 71 and third place.
In division one an impressive round of 72 for nett 67 saw Lee Parnell take the win, with a birdie at the 16th helping him along the way. Halves of 41 and an inward 38 helped John Nicolson to second place on nett 69, with Cammie Ross finishing third after a round of 82 gave him a nett 73.
In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action an excellent final four holes helped Jack Johnstone clinch victory ahead of David Mackay on countback after both finished on 39 points. Sandy Chisholm completed the podium places a further point back on 38.
In the overall standings Sandy Chisholm has taken over at the top on an eight-round aggregate score of 287, ahead of Pete McCartney on 285 and Jock Eunson on 282.
Round nine of the ladies’ Summer Stableford competition was won by Alison Ross despite having to play the final two holes in near darkness. A steady score of 37 points saw her pip Jacqui Greig who finished on 36.
Julie Minchin continued her recent rich vein of form to finish third on 34, with Pam Bain a further point back on 33.
In round one of the men’s autumn nine-hole competition Pete McCartney edged out Lee Parnell on countback after both finished on a fine score of 19 points. James Halliday took third on 17.
This Saturday will see the men sending two teams to Wick to play in the Ulbster Cup against the other Caithness clubs. The women will also have the opportunity to compete at Wick in their Ladies’ Open.
