The latest action at Reay has been dominated by the gents' Winter League Stableford competition, with three rounds played.

In round 18 it was Kenny Farmer Jnr who bagged the victory in blustery conditions with a solid score of 36 points following a round of 84 made up of halves of 40 and 44.

Doug Mackenzie finished second, five points adrift on 31, after a round of 82. Young Dylan Mackenzie continues to make good progress in the senior ranks, and he finished in a tie for third place with Sandy Chisholm after both amassed a total of 27 points.

More favourable conditions in round 19 saw a better scoring average, with vice-captain Colin Paterson taking the spoils after an excellent round of 70 – which included birdies at the sixth, 15th and 16th – was good enough for a score of 39 points.

Kenny Farmer Snr also managed a birdie at the 15th on his way to a score of 37 points and second place.

The race for third place was very keenly contested with no fewer than five players finishing on 36 points. In the end it was Cammie Ross who took the final podium spot, helped along the way by a birdie at the 14th.

Colin Munro, Evan Sutherland, Fred Groves and Murdo Macdonald were the other players who reached the 36-point mark.

The wind returned for round 20 but it did not deter Kenny Farmer Jnr who recovered from a shaky start to post a fine score of 36 points. Kenny Farmer Snr took second place on 32, with Sandy Chisholm third on 30 points.

In the overall standings long-term leader Kenny Farmer Jnr remains the man to catch with a six-round aggregate score of 230, with Cammie Ross his nearest challenger on 218.

Meanwhile, in the weekly Senior Stableford competition, it was Colin Struthers who prevailed in very windy conditions after an excellent round of 87 was good enough for 36 points. Willie Steven took second place on countback after he also carded 36 points but did have the consolation of recording a rare birdie at the long fourth hole.

Graham Harness maintained his fine winter form to take third on 35 points, ahead of Pete McCartney on 33 and Fred Groves on 32.

This weekend sees the gents' Winter League Stableford come to its conclusion with the final two rounds scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
