Fantastic score secures Three-Team Yellow Ball for Jean, Laura and Fiona

Due to the delayed start to the season the Thurso ladies' May Medal was held on July 11.

Laura Durrand, who shot the lowest gross round of the day with a score of 78 (5) 73, pipped runner-up Lyndsay Stott – 100 (26) 74) – by one shot to win. Sarah Meiklejohn and Lyndsay had twos, on the fifth and the 14th respectively.

The May Extra Medal was won by Lyndsay Stott who continued her fine form, cutting her handicap to 24 with a score of 92 (26) 66. Runner-up was Aileen Simmonite, on 87 (15) 72, whose round included an eagle two on the 13th hole. This was contested in very windy conditions which saw trolleys blowing over.

July 14 saw the July Extra Medal taking place. It was won by Emma Durrand who not only had the lowest gross score of the day but also her best-ever round with a score of 79 (15) 64. This saw her hitting the pin with her tee shot on the third.

Runner-up was Lyndsay Stott on 98 (26) 72.

Up next was the Mackay Cup which was won by Alison Campbell with a score of 91 (23) 68. Runner-up was Aileen Simmonite, 85 (15) 70, with the better inward half from Emma Durrand on 83 (13) 70 which saw her handicap cut to 12.

The Three-Team Competition was won by Jean Sutherland, Aileen Simmonite and Rachel Durrand with a nett 58, four shots clear of their nearest challengers. This was Rachel’s first competition after gaining her ladies' handicap having moved up from the junior section.

The Medal Winners 2019 event was played in stormy conditions. The winner was Emma Durrand on 90 (12) 78, while the runner-up was Morag Mackay with 101 (19) 82).

The other ladies played a Stableford Sweep which was won by Lyndsay Stott with 28 points.

The August Medal was won by Jane Grant with a score of 95 (14) 71, while the runner-up was Laura Durrand on 78 (5) 73. This was Jane’s first competition of the year.

The Three-Team Yellow Ball was won by Jean Sutherland, Laura Durrand and Fiona Calder with a fantastic score of 118 points.

Although there was thunderstorms in the morning it turned out to be a great evening for golf.

The August Extra Medal was won by Laura Durrand with a score of 77 (5) 72 which included her chipping in for a birdie three at the 10th. Runner-up was Alison Campbell on 95 (22) 73.

The Killearnan Cup was hotly contested, with Jean Clasper and Morag Mackay – 92 (20) 72 winning with the better inward half from Aileen Simmonite and Barbara McLeod on 96 (24) 72.

In the men's section at Thurso, Chris Sutherland leads the way in the A&A Mackay Builders Summer League after 14 rounds.

He is on 267 points, five clear of second-placed Ryan Forbes, with Alan Swanson a further point back.

Forbes was the round 13 winner with a 45-point tally, beating Andy Macgregor and David Dunbar into second and third places respectively.

Brian Hutcheon took the honours in round 14 after scoring 41 points, one ahead of Alan Swanson and Michael Macgregor.

The league consists of 21 rounds, with the best seven counting.
