Richard Macadie agreed an amicable parting of the ways with Pentland United after reaching the conclusion that he was “playing for the wrong team”.

The former Wick Academy captain dropped down to the Caithness amateur league this summer and made four appearances for the Stabbies, two from the start and two off the bench, before making the switch to Staxigoe United.

“It just didn’t feel right to be playing in Wick against the Wick teams,” Macadie explained. “I just felt I was playing for the wrong team, that’s all it was, so I just changed.

“Stabs were pretty good, to be fair – they just let me go and that was it. It was no problem at all.

“There was nothing wrong with it, I just felt I should be playing for a Wick team.”

Macadie made his Staxigoe debut in their 5-1 win against John O’Groats in the first round of the Eain Mackintosh Cup before helping the team to a comprehensive 8-1 victory over Watten in round two of the Highland Amateur Cup on Saturday.

“We just need to get everybody there,” he said afterwards. “We struggle for squads now and again. If we get a good run and a bit of momentum, you never know.

“I’ll do what I can do. I knew after the last game that I’d made the right decision.”

Macadie (38) brought his Highland League playing career to an end in April after more than 650 appearances and a club record 204 goals for Academy. He will be part of the club’s coaching staff from the start of the 2025/26 season.
