A YOUNG Caithness rider took home two championship titles in the showing classes at Blair Castle International Horse Trials last week.

Twenty-one-year-old Emma Gunn, of Castletown, and her intermediate ridden show horse Penskyber Mayflower secured the ridden championship after coming first in the small riding horse class on the Thursday.

The next day they went on to clinch the championship title in the ridden pony/hunter pony in hand section after winning the hunter pony not exceeding 153cm class. She qualified for this class at the Caithness Riding Club show earlier this year.

Winning at Blair was amazing. I am delighted that the hard work is paying off.

Emma, who is a mechanical design engineer at Dounreay with Nuvia, said: "Winning at Blair was amazing. I am delighted that the hard work is paying off.

"We have had a fantastic year. Our biggest achievement was qualifying and competing at the Royal International Horse Show."

Known by her stable name of Maisie, Emma's horse is a nine-year-old part-bred Welsh mare by Small-land Maytino out of a mare called Abbotts Saffron.

The young rider bought Maisie two years ago to be her 153cm show hunter pony but has now progressed to take part in the intermediate show riding type and riding horse classes.

Also taking home a sash from Blair were Team Skelton, who won the ridden hunter championship with their small hunter Ebony King, ridden by James Munro.
