Reay Golf Club hosted the North Coast 500 Open, sponsored by Norbloc, with the windy conditions providing a tough test for the field. Only two players managed to break par, with Steve Efemey emerging victorious thanks to a fine round of 75 for a nett 67.

His two steady halves of 37 and 38 included a fine birdie at the short 15th hole.

Efemey’s playing partner Lee Parnell had to settle for second place after an excellent round of 73 gave him a nett 68. After reaching the turn in 39, Parnell produced a scorching homeward half of 34 which included birdies at the 11th and 18th.

The in-form Jock Eunson took third place on countback after posting a nett 72 which included a birdie at the 16th. Donald Mowat and Cammie Ross took fourth and fifth places respectively after they also returned scores of nett 72.

However, Cammie Ross did have cause to celebrate after he lifted the handicap trophy in the strokeplay championship with a two-round nett aggregate score of 135. This was good enough to defeat Colin Paterson on countback after he also posted a score of 135.

Tom Ross took third place on 136, with recently crowned club champion Michael Smith finishing fourth.

Gavin Sutherland took the scratch trophy with rounds of 70 and 72 for a total of 142. Tom Ross finished in second place on 145 after rounds of 72 and 73, with Colin Paterson finishing third on countback after he also scored 145.
