Doubles win hands spoils to Crown '1'

COLIN Banks’s Crown “1” side travelled to Lybster to face Bayview “1” in an important match for both teams in the Wick and District Pool League.

Crown “1” controlled the match well and they went 4-2 ahead after the singles in mostly tactical frames. The next two frames were shared to put the Crown side a frame away from victory at 5-3. Eric Larnach and Stevie Cunningham combined extremely well in their doubles frame and they clinched a vital two points for Crown “1”.

Ryan Cook’s Blackstairs “2” side secured its third win out of three after a deciding frame victory over the Queen’s. Harry Candeland and Andrew Coghill both put in fine performances for Queen’s, and also combined well as they grannied their opponents in the doubles. But it was the Blackstairs who held their nerve in a tense final frame to win 6-5.

The Commercial got their season back on track, crushing a lacklustre Camps “1” side 10-1.

Camps “2” remain top of division one after a 9-2 victory over the Francis Street Club “1”. The scoreline certainly flattered the Camps, who enjoyed endless fortune in a match that should have been much closer.

The other match in division one saw Seaforth Club and Blackstairs “1” battle it out, with the latter running out 6-5 victors.

In the second division, Sinclair Bay remain undefeated after beating Bayview “2” 7-4 in a long gruelling match.

Sasa’s Cellar Bar also looked to make it four wins out of four when they faced Mountain Dew “2”. The match went all the way to a deciding frame and it was Mountain Dew “2” who clinched the two points with Faith Bramley potting the all-important black.

The other match in division two saw Mountain Dew “1” record an impressive 8-3 win over Crown “2”.
