Donald and Davidson hit 14-dart pairs game as Wick league resumes

THE first action of 2020 in Wick and District Darts League saw Park and Smiddy “4” whitewashed by Seaview and the Norseman respectively.

Graham Crowe (Smiddy Inn) and Calum Shearer (Seaview) both hit the biggest outshot to date with 160.

A 14-darter is good by anyone's standards at 501, but Queen's “2” pair Kevin Donald and Billy Davidson hit a 14-dart pairs game of 601. It was an amazing leg as they saw off Castletown 5-3.

Veteran Geordie Bain was in the Castletown line-up and he won his singles 3-0 again.

Seaview player Calum Shearer had a brilliant combination win with legs in 15, 15, 17 darts for an average 31.97 per dart and 95.91 overall.

In the ladies' division the table-toppers Seaforth and Queen's both won.

Results – Ladies: Camps 3 Seaforth 5; Queen's 6 Sinclair Bay 2.

Men's Division One: Park 0 Seaview 8; Smiddy Inn 7 Queen's 1; Queen's “2” 5 Castletown 3; Seaforth 3 Harper's “B” 5.

Division Two: Seaview “B” 4 Comm 4; Sinclair Bay 6 Smiddy “2” 2; Norseman 8 Smiddy “4” 0.

There were six maximums – Richard Thain (Smiddy Inn) achieved two, while Kevin Donald (Queen's “2”), Calum Shearer and Kevin Macgregor both (Seaview) and Mark Thain (Sinclair Bay) had one each.

Best checkouts – Men: Graham Crowe (Smiddy Inn) 160, Calum Shearer (Seaview) 160, David Bain (Seaforth) 125, Richard Thain (Smiddy Inn) 113, Martin Campbell (Smiddy “2”) 104, Kevin Macgregor (Seaview) 101, Stewart Tait (Seaview) 100, Mark Thain (Sinclair Bay) 100.

In the ladies' division Liz Ronaldson (Sinclair Bay) had a 140 checkout.

Earlier, there was a good turnout at the Queen's Hotel and the Seaforth Highlanders' Club for the league's annual Cricket Singles.

Kevin Donald (Queen's “2”) saw off Smiddy Inn's Richard Thain in a keenly contested men's final.

In the ladies' event it was the favourites who contested the final, with Freda Perry again taking the top spot for a Queen's double after beating Keiss player Liz Ronaldson.

In the ladies' competition there were three members of the same family in the last four – Freda Perry and daughters Morgan and Alison.

Results: Men – Quarter-finals: Richard Thain 3 Ryan Campbell 1; David Taylor 3 Alan Nicolson 2; Kevin Donald 3 Billy Davidson 1; Kevin Macgregor 3 Martin Nicolson 2.

Semi-finals: Richard Thain (Smiddy Inn) 3 David Taylor (Harper's) 0; Kevin Donald (Queen's “2”) 3 Kevin Macgregor (Seaview) 1. Final: Kevin Donald 3 Richard Thain 1.

Alan Nicolson had three maximums, while there were two for Kevin Donald 180 and one by David Taylor.

Ladies – Quarter-finals: Alison Tait beat Kara Sutherland, Freda Perry beat Ann Wells, Liz Ronaldson beat Jade Jones, Morgan Perry beat Janet Banks. Semi-finals: Freda Perry (Queen's) 2 Alison Tait (Queen's) 1; Liz Ronaldson (Sinclair Bay) 2 Morgan Perry (Queen's) 1. Final: Freda Perry 2 Liz Ronaldson 0.

Kara Sutherland hit 180, her second maximum this season.
