Although Martine Hughes was the sole female rider she put in a fine performance in hard conditions to take the Ladies’ gold.

This, the final competitive event of the season, is the tough 1.9 mile ascent of Scrabster Hill, made particularly hard this year by a strong headwind.

Only four riders took up the challenge and Andrew MacLeod’s record of four minutes and 42 seconds, set in 2022 with a tailwind, was never in danger.

Results: 1. Stuart Swanson, 7 minutes 28 seconds; 2. Roger Broughton, 7.55; 3. Iain Miller, 7.59; 4. Martine Hughes, 10.22.
