CAMPS "2" were crowned Wick and District Pool League’s division-one champions on Monday night with an impressive 8-3 win over Blackstairs "1".

The first two frames were closely fought which saw the match stand at 1-1. Ryan Carter and Bruce Honeyman defeated Perry Campbell and Stuart Mckenzie respectively to give Camps "2" a 3-1 lead.

The Camps side then took complete control of the match as it stretched its lead to 8-1. Blackstairs "1" won the remaining two frames, one of which included a nice clearance from Alan Stewart who left his opponents with seven balls on the table.

A win from James Riach and Alec Thomson in their doubles was the point in the match where Camps "2" knew they had secured the league.

Blackstairs "2" have been on top form recently and are definitely the most-improved team in the league after narrowly fighting off relegation last season. Ryan Cook’s team continued its good form with a 7-4 win over Camps "1". Blackstairs "2" went 3-0 behind with Camps player George Smith completing a total clearance in his singles.

Blackstairs "2" – the only team to beat Camps "2" this season – then fought back well to clinch another two points.

Bayview "1" remain in second place thanks to a 6-5 win over bottom-of-the-table Queen’s.

Crown "1" slip to third after a 7-4 loss to George Zindilis’ Commercial side.

Seaforth Club are now four points clear of the relegation zone thanks to an impressive 7-4 win over Francis Street Club "1".

Mountain Dew "2" avoided finishing bottom of the second division with a fantastic 6-5 win over Francis Street Club "2". Silver Fox and Donald Manson were on fire for the Mountain side, with both players completing eight-ball total clearances.

Harper’s ended their season on a high with a 7-4 win over Mountain Dew "1" and Bayview "2" were on form as they cruised to an 8-3 win against Crown "2".

There will be a pool meeting in the Camps Bar on Wednesday, March 28, at 8pm.
