Caithness United under-15s put in an impressive performance as they thrashed Clachnacuddin 7–1 in Inverness on Sunday.
The far north outfit proved to be too good for the Merkinch teenagers as they put them to the sword with a ruthless performance at Bught Park.
From the outset Caithness looked to play a passing game around and through their opponents, despite the bumpy conditions underfoot.
Caithness captain Matthew Aitkenhead commanded the midfield throughout the match by putting in a relentless shift, denying Clach the chance to impose themselves on the game at all.
There was also several slick interchanges from the United boys, notably within wide areas, where they frustrated their opponents, by cutting through their defence on numerous occasions.
The match was keenly contested, with plenty of effort and full-bloodied commitment from both sides, which provided a very entertaining watch for all the spectators.
After the match, Caithness coach Alan Kennedy praised his squad, stating the scoreline showed the potential they have saying: “That was the sort of performance we know these lads are capable of.
“In fact if we were a little cuter and more clinical in the final third, we would have scored more.
“But all-in-all we are pleased with how the team performed and how they conducted themselves throughout the game.
“I thought we controlled the middle of the park very well, and managed the game very effectively.”
Kennedy said while an excellent scoreline, it wasn’t the perfect performance and said they will be looking to improve on certain aspects of the match.
“We have noted key areas where we would like to see improvements and that’ll be our focus in training over the next couple of weeks.”
Caithness did suffer a blow as goalscorer Rory Taylor had to be taken off injured, with Kennedy hopeful he can return to action on the pitch soon.
“The unfortunate injury to Rory Taylor looked like a nasty one, and we all wish him a speedy recovery,” he said.
“And I must also congratulate him on scoring an absolutely superb goal, just before his injury.
“He must have been 25 yards out, and curled the ball into the far top corner from wide left.
“It was great technique from him.”
