Caithness shooters have unassailable lead in national postal league





For the second year running, a team of shooters representing Caithness will be crowned as national inter-county champions.

They have a three-point lead with one round to go in Division One of the National Small-bore Rifle Association’s postal league for the Kolar Gold Mine Challenge Trophy.

This means they have an unassailable lead ahead of second-placed Sussex “A”.

The Caithness team made sure of retaining the title by defeating Aberdeenshire.

Round nine results (points dropped ex 1200) – Yorkshire “A” 1178, Hampshire “A” 1180; Aberdeenshire “A” 1175, Caithness 1184; Sussex “A” 1177, Surrey “A” 1175.

Caithness individual scores (ex 100) were – H Simpson 100, D Simpson 100, J Campbell 99, J Fraser 99, R Campbell 99, R Brown 99, SS Nicolson 99, P Richard 98, A Paul 98, D Mowat 98, W Campbell 98, G Begg 97.

Division One standings: 1 Caithness (shot 9, aggregate 10,645, points 15); 2 Sussex “A” (9, 10,601, 12); 3 Hampshire “A” (9, 10,630, 11); 4 Surrey “A” (9, 10,512, 8); 5 Yorkshire “A” (9, 10,584, 6); 6 Aberdeenshire “A” (9, 10,565, 2).
