CAITHNESS Ladies will be looking for a massive result in their final home game before the summer break when they face Highland and Islands League leaders Ross County Development.

Caithness are set to take on the Staggies at Back Park in Castletown on Sunday, looking to be the first team to beat them this season.

Caithness themselves have had a mixed season in the Highlands and Islands League so far, finding themselves in fourth place with five wins and four defeats.

But they do go into the match in good form after qualifying for the semi finals of the Highlands and Islands Cup after defeating Clachnacuddin 6-1 in Carrbridge last Sunday.

Manager Tom McKenna knows they are up against the best team in the league, who they played earlier this season in a 4-2 defeat.

As Ross County have entered a development team into the league, McKenna is unsure of the players Caithness will be up against, but knows that it will be a tough challenge regardless of who they face.

“This will be a difficult game for us, irrespective of which players they are bringing up,” he said.

“Ross County will be wanting to maintain the high standards that they have set for themselves.

“Being associated with a professional club, they will want to make sure that they play with an element of professionalism.

“Whoever they bring up, they will want players that can represent their club the best they can.”

However, McKenna says he gathered confidence from his team’s recent displays that they are capable of a positive result on Sunday.

“We are playing well in our games. Our performances have been absolutely exceptional. But we have to be better at set pieces. When Sutherland beat us 5-1, four of their goals came from corners.

“We are working on pressuring the final third in training.

“We finished third in the league and got to a final last season, and I would be happy with if we could finish third or fourth and try to get to another cup final. I always want to see progress.”
