Caithness Ladies face a wait to add to their SWF Highlands and Islands League points tally after learning that their weekend visit to meet league leaders Buckie Ladies has been cancelled.

In a statement on Facebook, the club said it was “extremely disappointed” after learning that the game had been postponed due to a “ref unavailability”.

The statement read: “Unfortunately, due to ref unavailability our match on Sunday against Buckie has been cancelled - extremely disappointing.

“Update with rescheduled fixture will be posted in due course.”

The match, which would have presented Tom McKenna’s side with a chance to go joint-top of the table, had originally been scheduled to be played at Gordon Park in Portgordon this Sunday.

Caithness Ladies currently sit in second place in the table, with maximum points from their opening two games, after wins over Sutherland Women and Nairn St Ninian.

The club are already a game behind after their only home game thus far, against Clachnacuddin, was postponed as the Inverness club couldn’t raise a team.

Carly Erridge led the way with four goals in last weekend’s game away to Nairn.

A brace from Anna Swanson was rounded off by a goal from Anna Foubister in what turned out to be a 7-1 win for the unbeaten side.

Caithness Ladies will next play in the Highlands and Islands League Cup, welcoming Sutherland Women to Thurso on Sunday May 17.

Their next scheduled league game on Sunday May 24, as hosts to Orkney Women.
