PERTH Gymfest at Bell's Sports Centre was the destination last weekend for a group of Caithness rhythmic gymnasts who travelled with their coaches and the younger gymnasts' parents.

More than 60 teams attended over the weekend, coming from the length and breadth of Scotland.

Gymfest is a celebration of display gymnastics. It gives an opportunity to see beyond purely competitive events and it shares the excitement of non-competitive gymnastics which is enjoyed and experienced by many gymnasts in clubs around the country.

It is no less challenging or inspiring to all those who take part or to the coaches and supporting families.

The rhythmic gymnasts trained hard over the previous months putting together a display routine to a medley of music from Ed Sheeran. They performed the routine to a full and appreciative audience.

Among the group were a few first-time performers at such a large display, but this was definitely not evident as they all performed to the best of their ability and gave a sparkling and dynamic performance to a difficult and intricate routine, using hoops, ropes and ribbons to spectacular effect.
