SWIFTS have lost their fight to stay in the county league division one.

Despite a 3-1 win in Castletown on Wednesday evening, they finished bottom of the pile after an exciting climax to determine the relegation and play-off spots.

Four teams were in the mix until the last kick of the games in Castletown, John O’Groats and Halkirk.

Swifts’ victory consigns Castletown to the promotion/relegation play-off match versus Thurso Pentland.

The biggest similes of the evening were worn by Acks, whose dramatic 3-2 win in Groats ensured last season’s division two-champions’ survival in the top flight.

Fixtures – Saturday: David Allan Shield final: Pentland United v Wick Groats (Sir George’s Park, Thurso, 6pm).

Results – Division one:

Acks 0, Pentland United 4;

Castletown 1, Swifts 3;

Halkirk 3, Staxigoe United 2;

John O’Groats 2, Acks 3;

Wick Groats v Pentland United, postponed.

Steven Cup – First round:

Keiss 3, FSC 1;

Rovers 3, Top Joe’s 5.

Semi-finals:

Thurso Pentland 1, Wick Thistle 3;

Keiss 4, Top Joe’s 0.
