Caithness badminton players praised after success in Scottish Masters
Caithness badminton players were praised for their “outstanding quality” after making their mark in the Badminton Scotland 2025 Scottish Masters in Glasgow.
In a weekend packed with impressive performances, Shona Mackay dominated the women’s singles 35-plus category, taking first place, and she went on to claim another gold medal in the women’s doubles 35 alongside partner Kathryn McGregor.
Shona also added to her medal haul with a third-place finish in the mixed doubles 35 with Sid Singh, a fine all-round performance across multiple events.
Jane Grant continued her excellent form on the national stage by taking first place in the women’s singles 65 category. Jane also achieved strong results across her doubles events, finishing fourth in the women’s doubles 65 with Kathleen Sidebottom and fourth in the mixed doubles 65 with James Barnett.
Adding to the Caithness success, Carole Begg and Craig Lamb brought home a first-place finish in the mixed doubles 50, further boosting the medal tally for the county.
Caithness Badminton Association secretary Kerry Mackenzie said: “A massive well done to all players for their fantastic efforts, dedication and sportsmanship throughout the competition, and to the event organisers for another smoothly run and enjoyable tournament.
“It’s wonderful to see such a strong number of titles heading north, showcasing the depth of badminton talent in Caithness. Our local athletes once again proved that the north continues to produce players of outstanding quality and determination.”
