Bunillidh Thistle have pulled out of the North Caledonian League only a few days before the season is due to kick off.

The North Caledonian Football Association confirmed that the Helmsdale outfit will not compete in the 2025/26 campaign.

Bunillidh had been scheduled to start their season on Saturday against Fort William at Couper Park.

Their decision to withdraw from the division means it is reduced from 13 teams to 12.

A rearrangement of fixtures means that Thurso – now managed by Ross Sutherland – will play their opening league match at home to champions Invergordon on Saturday, August 16, with a 1pm kick-off.

Halkirk United begin with a midweek fixture. They are away to Bonar Bridge on Wednesday, August 13 (7.15pm), with two other games also scheduled for that night.

The Anglers finished as runners-up last season, with Thurso second from bottom.

Halkirk United are at home to Clachnacuddin “A” on Saturday, August 16 (1pm).

The season kicks off on Friday night as Clachnacuddin “A” take on Inverness Athletic at Black Rock Park in Evanton (7.15pm).

One game is set to take place on Saturday, with new boys Inverness Thistle now facing Fort William at North Kessock (1pm).

Bunillidh only returned to the North Caledonian League last season after an absence of four years.

They finished bottom, having lost 20 of their 22 matches, with just one win and one draw.

However, they were deducted three points after failing to fulfil an away fixture to Orkney.

The North Caledonian FA said in a statement: “[We] can confirm that Bunillidh Thistle FC have withdrawn from all competitions ahead of the new campaign.

“As a result, they will not participate in any NCFA league or cup fixtures for the 2025/26 season. They shall, however, retain their membership as a paid member club for 2025/26.

“The NCFA wish the club well as they take this time to regroup and focus on their future.”
