RYAN Sutherland (14) made a return to winning ways with a nett 67 to win the RNLI Medal played at Wick last Sunday.

The course was in good condition and scoring was easier on the back nine thanks to a helping light breeze.

Sutherland struggled into the breeze on the way out taking 44 shots but played excellent golf on the back nine, helped with a birdie at the 10th, to come back in only 37 shots.

Second with nett 68 was veteran Farquhar MacGregor (15) who beat Colin Coghill (5) on a better inward half.

For MacGregor it was a tale of two halves as he took 48 shots to reach the turn but then produced fireworks to come back in one-over-par 35 – the best inward half of the day, which included consecutive birdies at the 13th and 14th holes. Coghill played near par golf to the turn to go out in one-over-par 36. He came back in 37 with birdies at the 12th and 18th holes.

Fourth with a nett 69 was Ian Thomson (6), who covered the first nine holes in 38 shots, with a birdie at the third, and came back in 37. Next was Martin Sutherland (14) with a nett 70.

Best scratch score was returned by Ron Taylor with a two-over-par 71. Out in 36, Taylor ran up a double bogey at the 12th but made amends with a birdie at the 14th and then finished in style with birdies at the 17th and 18th holes.

The fourth round of the Summer League was played on Wednesday, July 13, with brothers Adam McAllan (9) and Steven McAllan (9) leading the way with nett 69s. Older brother Adam claimed first spot on a better inward half.

Out in 40 Adam played well to came back in 38. Steven had a good first nine holes reaching the turn in only two-over-par 37 but could not maintain his momentum, taking 41 shots for the inward half.

Third was John Hunter (5) with a nett 69 followed by Martin MacDonald (6) with a nett 71.

It will be a busy week at Wick Golf Club starting with the Ladies Open tomorrow. The tee will be reserved from 11am to 2pm.

On Sunday it is the Tulloch Homes Open with the tee reserved from 7.30am to noon.

The Gala Open, sponsored by G. & A. Barnie, is due to be played on Thursday. It is open to both ladies and gents.
