Round two of the Winter Eclectic at Reay Golf Club saw some par-busting scores recorded in fine conditions.

Andy Bain defeated Lee Parnell on countback at the top of the leaderboard after a pair of sublime nett 61s. Match secretary Bain’s winning tally came courtesy of a round of 71, made up of an outward half of 36, which included a birdie at the sixth, and an inward 35 made up of a Faldo-esque run of nine straight pars.

Parnell had the consolation of posting the best gross score of the day in the shape of a 66 full of his trademark panache. Matching halves of 33 included an eagle at the sixth and a hat-trick of birdies at the 12th, 13th and 14th holes.

Finishing a distant eight strokes adrift in third place were Ian Farquhar and Leslie Malcolm who both carded solid rounds of nett 69.

In the overall Eclectic standings, it is no surprise to see Parnell leading the way on 63, ahead of Bain on 65. Farquhar is next best on 68, with Steve Efemey leading the chasing pack on 70.

The December Medal was also won with an excellent score in the shape of a nett 65 from Simon Harper. His round of 71 was made up of halves of 38 and a blistering inward 33, with four birdies at the sixth, 13th, 16th and 18th providing the highlights.

Kenny Farmer took the runner-up spot with a fine nett 68 following a solid round of 86, with Andy Bain finishing third on nett 69 after a round of 77 which included a birdie at the sixth.

Harper also topped the standings in round six of the Winter League Stableford with a haul of 36 points. Kenny Farmer took second place on 33, ahead of Sandy Chisholm and Leslie Malcolm who both carded scores of 32.

In the overall standings Chisholm leads the way with a three-round aggregate score of 111, followed closely by Harper on 108 and Farmer on 106.
