Bain gets his taste of glory with February Medal success

It was another busy week on the fairways of Reay, with competitions in the women’s, seniors and men’s sections.

The latest round of the North Point Distillery Senior Stableford competition was won by Kenny Farmer Snr, who mastered the windy conditions to post an impressive tally of 38 points. His win came courtesy of a fine round of 85 made up of halves of 42 and 43.

A birdie at the 15th helped Kenny Farmer Jnr to second place on 35 points. Donald Bain was also on the birdie trail, his one coming at the sixth, on his way to 32 points and third place.

Donald Bain did not have to wait long for his own taste of glory, however, as he won the men’s Nuvia February Medal with an excellent score of 79 for nett 65.

Halves of 38 and 39 helped Simon Harper to a fine round of 77 for nett 68 and second place. Steve Efemey completed the podium places after a solid round of 83 gave him a nett 70.

In the women’s February Medal, Heather Campbell maintained her recent excellent form to claim the silverware after a steady round gave her a winning score of nett 68.

Carol Paterson birdied the 13th on her way to the lowest gross score of the day, a fine 83, to take second place on nett 73. A strong finish helped Lora Jane Kelly to third place on countback after she also finished on nett 73.

In the latest round of the Winter League Stableford competition, Andy Bain fired a tremendous round of 74, made up of 13 pars and five bogeys, to win with 41 points.

Solid performances saw David Ross and Bruce Mackay take second and third places respectively on 36 and 35 points.

This Saturday will see the women playing in round four of their Winter Stableford competition, while the men will be playing in the rescheduled third round of their Winter Eclectic.

On Sunday both the men and women will be back in Winter League Stableford action.
