The Scorries fought to the last at Allan Park on Saturday but could not pull back from a two-goal deficit.

Cove went into the lead on 14 minutes when Danny Milne pushed the ball through the Academy defence for Jordan Layden to steer it past Academy keeper Allan Bokas from eight yards out.

Milne notched up a goal of his own in the 28 minute when he got onto the end of a Leyden cross to force the ball home from the six-yard line.

Academy attacked throughout the game and kept up the pressure in the second half, but they couldn't seem to find the back of the net.

Seven minutes after the interval, Sam Mackay shot inches past the Cove post. This was followed by a shot on target from Stevie Cunningham which was gathered by Cove keeper Stuart McKenzie.

Stewart Ross then sliced just wide of the target and Cunningham had a further shot blocked.

Richard Macadie set up another attempt for Cunningham but the striker was defeated by the keeper. He got onto the end of the rebound but sent it over the bar.

Academy kept attacking right up to the end when Ross passed deep into the home half but it was just too high for substitute Gary Weir to nod home.
