Anderson and Swanson are time trial winners at Wick and Thurso
Seven riders started the latest 10-mile time trial held by Wick Wheelers. They were faced with a stiff westerly wind on the outward leg.
Stuart Anderson was once again a clear winner by more than five minutes. Derek Fraser, on his debut for the season, rode well to clock 28 min 54 sec for second place.
James Munro and Charlie Mackay had a close battle for third, with the former taking it by eight seconds.
It was even closer for fifth and sixth, with George Ewing getting the better of Iain Miller by the narrowest possible margin of one second.
Lisa Coghill was the only lady on the night.
Times: 1 Stuart Anderson, 23 min 26 sec; 2 Derek Fraser, 28.54; 3 James Munro, 29.50; 4 Charlie Mackay, 29.58; 5 George Ewing, 31.09; 6 Iain Miller, 31.10; 7 Lisa Coghill, 33.59.
Stuart Swanson posted the fastest time in Thurso-based Caithness Cycling Club’s first 10-mile time trial of the season. Alistair Miller took second place and there was an encouraging first-ever time trial from William Calder.
Six riders faced timekeeper John Falconer in excellent conditions for the time of year, with a 9 mph south-easterly breeze, a temperature of 12C and some evening sunshine.
Swanson was on good form to be just 36 seconds off his best time of 2024, while everyone else was over a minute behind last year’s times.
