SHOULD Caithness achieve promotion to the Scottish National League Division Three, then a cold afternoon in Alloa will go down as the moment going up became a real prospect.

The Greens had travelled to the Clackmannanshire town having made a flying start to the campaign but mindful that the main aim of promotion was still some way away.

However, the manner of their 17-0 victory over the Wee County brought it home to McGee that his troops were more than capable of going all the way. It was a controlled and clinical display by the Thurso side against a team who are traditionally hard to beat at home. McGee said: “Alloa away was huge for us. Not just in terms of the league campaign but also psychologically as it showed everyone of us what we could go to achieve this season.

“Their place is traditionally a tough venue to get something from and while we did well to get a victory there, it was how we did it that convinced me that promotion was on.

“We played well and frustrated the life out of them. To keep a side like that to nil, keep knocking them back into their own half and deny them a hint of scoring a try just tells you something.

“It showed me how far this group of players we have here at Caithness had come.”
