Wick Academy under-15s turned on the style in an exciting 9-4 victory at Rothes last weekend.

The Wick boys produced some brilliant passing and movement in the first third, keeping up an impressive tempo.

Connor Farquhar got the ball rolling with a great strike from outside the box and wasn’t long before Liam Bain added a second. Bain was involved in the third with a short corner to Alan Matheson who wrong-footed a defender and slotted the ball inside the near post.

The fourth was scored by Ross Steven, who coolly slipped the ball passed the advancing keeper.

Rothes started brightly in the second third and pulled one back from a corner. Wick added a fifth after fine overlapping run by Ryan Henderson who found Matheson at the back post to net his second.

Rothes reduced the deficit from another corner, but Wick kept playing attractive football and from a corner of their own Bain's cross found Thomas Pearson rising high above the defence to make it six.

Farquhar added number seven with a long-range shot before Rothes got two good goals which Leo Shearer could do nothing to prevent.

Bain got his second with a nice finish inside the box, then Matheson added his third and Wick's ninth with a tidy finish at the back post.

They now have a double header home and away with Orkney, and a tournament in Dingwall in June.
