‘A great watch for the neutral’: Caithness United and Balloan in 14-goal thriller
Caithness United under-14s were praised for the amount of effort they put in as they shared the points with Balloan Ness in a 14-goal thriller.
Ruaridh Kean scored four goals for United in Sunday’s 7-7 draw at Inverness Royal Academy, with a double for Ross Mackay and one from Rory Anderson.
Balloan went ahead in the first minute, appearing to catch the Caithness defence cold. After that, United settled into the game more and soon got an equaliser.
The action then became end-to-end, like a basketball game, with neither team able to take control. With 15 minutes left Caithness had the advantage, being ahead 7-5, but couldn’t build on that cushion.
Balloan scored again to reduce the deficit and a nervy Caithness conceded again in the dying stages.
Caithness United coach Luke Bunch said: “For a neutral, it must have been a great watch. It wasn’t so good for us coaches, having conceded seven goals, but I can’t fault the lads’ effort, particularly going forward.
“It was a bit gutting to draw, but that’s a strong Balloan side who up until this point had a 100 per cent record in the league and we matched them throughout. On another day, with a little more composure, we could have easily taken all the points.”
