An allegation of bullying was the trigger for an incident involving two parents in the car park of a Caithness school, Wick Sheriff Court heard on Tuesday.

It led to one of the parents, known only as parent A, being charged with assaulting the other, parent B.

Their identities, along with the name of the school, cannot be disclosed in order to protect the identities of their children.

Fiscal David Barclay said the assault occurred when the two parents were dropping their respective children off at the school, on December 3, last year.

Staff members observed parent A, the accused, beginning to throw punches at parent B. Both men fell to the ground and sustained injuries. A bystander intervened and separated the two men.

Mr Barclay said: "My understanding in terms of the background is that there were claims that the accused's children had been bullied by parent B's children. It appears that the accused lost his temper on seeing him."

Sheriff Andrew Berry, who saw a background report, ordered the accused to carry out 90 hours of unpaid community work while under supervision.

The sheriff observed that the accused, who admitted a charge of assault, had a previous conviction for similar conduct.
