A HIT show featuring the music of three blues greats – BB King, Albert King and Freddie King – is to take to the stage in Wick in April, and we are giving one lucky fan the chance to win a pair of tickets.

The Kings of the Blues show by the Scottish band Main Street Blues was developed by the band members early in 2019 to pay tribute to the three "kings".

First performed as part of the band's Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival show, it proved a huge success and was followed by a run of sold-out shows during the Edinburgh Fringe prior to touring Scottish theatres, including Eden Court in Inverness, where the audience ended up dancing in the aisles.

Usually a four-piece, Main Street Blues has been augmented by a horn section and backing singers to bring the songs to life, creating the exciting sound of American electric blues.

The band was started in 2006 by Derek Smith and it has grown in stature and popularity over the years. Regular performers at the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival, the band have sold out their shows in every one of the last eight years.

For the last five years the musicians have focused their touring on festivals and theatres, and supporting national and international touring bands. They have also made a number of TV appearances, including having their set on the main stage at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival broadcast by BBC Alba then repeated a number of times on TV as well as being on the BBC iPlayer.

As well as this, Main Street Blues have found time to release four CDs, all of which are available for download via the band’s website, and they also have a significant presence on YouTube with one of the tracks from the most recent album now sitting at 1.6 million views.

The Kings of the Blues show will play Wick Assembly Rooms on Friday, April 17, beginning at 7.30pm. Tickets are £14 and are available online at Eventbrite (subject to small booking fee) or directly from McAllan's in High Street and the East Caithness Community Facility.

Readers can enter our competition to win a pair of tickets. To be in with a chance just email the answer to the following question to editor@nosn.co.uk with the words "Kings of the Blues competition" in the subject line. Entries must be received by Friday, February 21.

Question: The Main Street Blues show celebrates three blues legends. Two are Albert King and Freddie King – who is the third?
