A supermarket in Wick is helping bring some Christmas kindness to local elderly folk who may be feeling lonely and isolated at this time of year.
Tesco Wick has set up a special festive Tree of Kindness near its front door which invites shoppers to take a gift tag from the tree, purchase the gift and then place it in the designated collection point beside the checkouts.
Karen Center, Tesco Wick's community champion, said: "Our tree is an act of kindness for some of our elderly customers and residents who may be isolated and on their own this Christmas.
"We are working along with many groups in our community who will help us locate elderly folk that we can bring a smile to."
Karen said gift suggestions range from special gift sets for a male or female, gift cards, boxes of sweets and biscuits, scarf sets or can include "something of your own choice".
"With this being such an awful year for everyone, we feel that our elderly are more vulnerable and many will be feeling isolated due to Covid. So by doing our Tree of Kindness we hope to bring some cheer to them."
Karen said the response so far has been "overwhelming".
"Our community generosity is one of a kind. It is very overwhelming how much folk care and the kindness in giving the gifts is very much appreciated."
She added: "We can’t help everyone but everyone can help someone – that is so true at this time of year."
