The latest charity whisky-tasting session at the Nethercliffe Hotel in Wick has resulted in more than £2000 being handed over to Highland and Islands Blood Bikes.

Ten whiskies, each from a different distillery, were sampled on a Saturday evening in April, with a food pairing for each dram and stovies at the midway point.

Along with a raffle held at the end of the night, a total of £2030 was raised. The cheque was presented this week to David Mackay from Highland and Islands Blood Bikes.

Mervyn Hill, who runs the hotel along with his wife Helen, said: “Everyone had a great night and they are looking forward to the next tasting which will be in the autumn.”

This was the sixth in the series of whisky-tasting nights. The first, in August 2019, was in Bilbster hall and all the others have been in the hotel.

In total, these have raised £12,000 with different charities benefiting each time.

Highland and Islands Blood Bikes is a charity that transports vital medical supplies and samples free of charge for the NHS. Its main base is in Inverness, with three smaller bases in Wick, Fort William and Oban.
