Wick teacher’s latest children’s fantasy novel available this week
Wick primary school teacher Clemency Crow lives up to her name with a new bird-themed fantasy novel called Doorway to the Sunset.
Clemency has been a teacher at Newton Park Primary School since 2017 and has written a series of novels, often featuring birds on the covers, published by her family-run business, Crowvus.
“I love heaps of danger in stories,” she says.
“This book is for everyone who daydreams in class about adventures and magic, every kid who’s ever dreamed of finding a secret world, or wielding a bit of magic.”
Doorway to the Sunset is the second instalment in the Feather Down series, continuing the journey of Freya, a brave and clever 12-year-old who must confront new challenges and unlock deeper secrets of an ancient world. The author says that the book also works well as a standalone novel.
Doorway to the Sunset expands the series’ magical universe with “rich world-building and edge-of-your-seat action” that will keep readers aged 10+ turning pages late into the night. With new allies, stronger enemies, and a quest that tests friendship and courage, this sequel raises the stakes for familiar characters.
Clemency is an award-winning author with eight books published for young readers. She has won a Red Ribbon Award from the Wishing Shelf Book Awards for Taking Wing, and an honourable mention in the Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Awards.

The book is available to buy on Amazon from July 4 and can be preordered at: www.amazon.co.uk/Doorway-Sunset-fantasy-adventure-Feather-ebook/dp/B0DTQ1LXCS
Doorway to the Sunset is available in hardcover, paperback, and ebook formats. It is described as “perfect for fans of Rick Riordan, Alan Garner and G P Taylor” and “a must-read for fantasy lovers and adventure-seekers everywhere”.
