A Caithness woman has admitted a charge of attempted extortion.

Claire Budge (35) was said to have threatened to divulge social media communications between herself and a man if he didn't pay her £2000.

First offender Budge indicated she would show the messages to the man's partner if he didn't pay up. The offence occurred between May 19 and 20 this year.

Fiscal David Barclay advised Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday: "I think there might have been issues in the accused's background leading to her behaving in this way."

Sheriff David Sutherland called for a background report which he will consider and hear the circumstances of the offence before sentencing Budge, of Harbour Road, Occumster, on September 7.
