Wick's crazy diamonds will get their chance to shine on as Pink Floyd tribute band What The Floyd roll into town next month.

The band will play the Assembly Rooms where fans of the legendary prog-rock band will be entertained with hits from both the Syd Barrett and David Gilmour eras.

Formed in the mid-1960s, the original Pink Floyd made a dramatic impact on the music scene and with classic albums such as Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall, are cited as being one of the most influential bands in music history.

They last played together in a one-off reunion at the Live 8 concert in London in 2005 – a performance rated by many as the best one that night.

What The Floyd keep the flame burning for fans and, as keyboard player Richard Smith says, those coming to the Wick show won't be disappointed.

He said: "We're massive fans of Pink Floyd and we pull out all the stops to try and make it feel like an actual Floyd show.

"Pink Floyd are know for their visuals and lighting so we will be replicating that – on a smaller scale, of course. Which reminds me, I need to get an inflatable pig before the tour starts.

"We're looking forward to coming to Wick. It's nice to get to new places and meet new fans.

"Our forthcoming arrival seems to have been welcomed given that two thirds of the tickets available have been sold very quickly.

"We will be playing stuff that encompasses all the Floyd eras, from Syd to David and post-Roger Waters – including the whole Dark Side of the Moon album in its entirety during the second half of the show."

The concert takes place at the Wick Assembly Rooms on Thursday, May 9. Tickets are £18.50 and can be purchased at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/what-the-floyd-the-music-of-pink-floyd-tickets-56177945748
