Wick provost delighted to visit children at Watten ELC after their recent eco award
Wick’s provost, Jan McEwan, said she was delighted to visit the children and staff at Watten ELC after they had received a prestigious eco award.
The Wick and East Caithness councillor recently made a trip to the Watten Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) facility, next to the village hall, to find out what projects the kids were working on.
“What joy I had meeting the children who were anxious to show me the wolf they have sponsored, and plastic they have collected,” said Cllr McEwan.
“It is not surprising they have won a climate flag for the fourth year running, and they are well on their way to receiving one next year. They were desperate to show me their polytunnel and tell me what they would be growing in it next year and what delicious food they would make to eat.
“The success of Watten ELC is down to the dedicated staff who have an amazing relationship with each child.”
The children and staff at the Watten charity-run nursery celebrated after securing their fourth Eco-Schools Scotland Green Flag Award.
The Care and Learning Alliance’s Watten ELC received the award from Keep Scotland Beautiful, which recognised its “hard work and innovation”, making the centre a more environmentally friendly place and supporting its wider community.
